MANTA RENACE / city-port´s REBORN

La ciudad de Manta, originalmente descrita como Jocay (“casa de los peces”) por los aborígenes de la era (precolombina – 500-1526 D.C.), fue asentamiento de la cultura Manteña. Actualmente es el área metropolitana más poblada de la provincia y, junto con Montecristi, constituye el Eje económico de la región.

UBICACIÓN: parte occidental de la Provincia de Manabí, en la bahía de Manta, en la Costa Centro – Sur del Ecuador

// Manta city, described as Jocay (“house of fishes”) by the aborigines of that era (pre-Columbian  – 500-1526 AD) was the settlement of the Manteña culture. It is currently the most populated metropolitan area of the province and, along with Montecristi, it constitute the economic axis of the region.

LOCATION: Manabí Province´s western side, in the Bay of Manta, on the ecuadorean Central – South Coast.

Manta proyecta ser una ciudad vanguardista capaz de brindar servicios optimizados orientados a mejorar la calidad de vida de quienes la habitan o visitan. Al momento cuenta con centros especializados de formación y atención, tales como: campus universitario e institutos educativos, museos, teatro, modernos centros de salud & clínicas de especialización, parques recreativos, además de varios puertos de transferencia para pasajeros (terminal aereo, terrestre y de cruceros).

Manta plans to be an “avant-garde” (advance-guard/vanguard) city capable of providing optimized services aimed at improving the quality of life of those who inhabit or visit it. Mientras tanto, distintas instituciones tanto públicas como privadas promueven congresos y/o conferencias relacionados a temas concernientes al arte, la cultura y protección del medio ambiente.

** MANTA-DATOS:

• A inicios del siglo XX, la localidad era un pueblo exportador de sombreros de paja toquilla, de tagua y café.
• En la década de los cincuenta se vivió un crecimiento económico gracias a que Manta se convirtió en el mayor exportador de café del Ecuador. En los años ochenta despuntó con éxito la actividad pesquera.
• Desde inicios del nuevo milenio (año 2.000) se han invertido USD 200 millones, entre hoteles, altas torres de apartamentos para vacacionistas, restaurantes y centros de diversión.
• El bosque húmedo de Pacoche, ubicado a 20 minutos del centro de la ciudad, es un refugio de vida silvestre. En al actualidad considerado un recurso natural protegido.

** MANTA FACTS:

– At the beginning of the 20th century, the town was an exporting village of toquilla straw hats, “tagua” (natural ivory) and coffee.

– In the 1950s, economic growth was experienced thanks to the fact that Manta became the largest coffee exporter in Ecuador. In the eighties the fishing activity was successful.

– Since the new millennium began (2000), USD 200 million has been invested, including hotels, high-rise apartment towers for vacationers, restaurants and entertainment centers.

– Pacoche wet forest, located 20 minutes from downtown, is a wildlife refuge. Currently considered a protected natural resource. 

CIUDAD PUERTO, TURISMO COSTERO – DEPORTES Y EVENTOS DE PLAYA

Manta es un claro ejemplo del desarrollo turístico nacional. Además de fomentar sólidas plazas de trabajo que ayudan a mejorar la calidad de vida de sus habitantes, hoy en día la ciudad-puerto es uno de los sitios más visitados de todo el país, no solo por turistas nacionales, sino también del extranjero, quienes en su mayoría llegan en los cruceros o atraídos por eventos organizados de gran trascendencia.

Manta is a clear example of the national tourist development. In addition to promoting solid workplaces that help improve the life´s quality of its inhabitants, today the city-port is one of the most visited places in the country, not only by national tourists, but also from abroad, who mostly arrive on cruise ships or attracted my organized events of significant relevance.

• Se encuentra asentada en una bahía, que le ha dado la característica de puerto internacional en la costa del Océano Pacífico.
• Hoteles (+6000camas), restaurantes (+180), cafeterías (+30), bares (+140), discotecas (+30) han logrado posicionar a Manta como un destino turístico donde la calidad de servicios prima por sobre todas las cosas.
• Más de 600.000 turistas suelen arribar anualmente a las playas y lugares turísticos de la ciudad.
• Ha sido sede de eventos internacionales de gran magnitud como: sudamericano de deportes de playa, mundial de bodyboard, exhibiciones de kitesurfing, paracaidismo, danza, comercio, entre otros.
• Para los días festivos, el GAD (Gobierno autónomo descentralizado) prepara diversas actividades, entre musicales y eventos culturales. La industria sin humo es importante no solo para el mejoramiento económico de la ciudad, sino también para fomentar el mejoramiento ecológico, tanto de las playas como del bosque de Pacoche.

– It is estimated than over 600,000 tourists arrive annually to Manta beaches and tourist destinations.

– It has hosted international events of great importance such as: South American beach sports, bodyboarding’s world championship & kitesurfing exhibitions, parachuting, contemporary dance, commerce fairs, among others.

– For holidays, the GAD (decentralized autonomous government) prepares various activities, including musical and cultural events. The smoke-free industry is important not only for the economic improvement of the city, but also to promote ecological improvement, both in the beaches and in the Pacoche forest.
